Obituary

Valeria Montrez Phillips (affectionately known as “Tracey” to her family and close friends, and “Val” to most of her co-workers and the patients she served), was born at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City on October 09, 1970, to Larry and Ruby Phillips.  She attended public schools in New York City.  After high school, she attended LaGuardia Community College, Allen School of Nursing, and VEEB School of Practical Nursing where she completed the prescribed course of study for Practical Nursing in 2005.  In March 2006, she was issued her license to practice nursing in New York State by the NYS Division of Professional Licensing Service. She relocated to South Carolina in 2007 and obtained a multi-state license from the SC State Board of Nursing authorizing her to practice nursing in SC, NC, and GA.

Valeria grew up in church and even after leaving home to live on her own she was frequently found in church on Sunday mornings. In 2012, she confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and continued her fellowship in the Lord at Vision of Victory Temple, in Mauldin, where she served on the Communion Committee, as Sunday School Secretary/Recorder of Minutes, Worship Leader, and Soloist.  At the time of her passing, she was employed as the Health and Wellness Director at Brookdale of Easley.  Her life priorities were God first, family second, job third, and everything else came afterwards.  Her commitment to God, family, and job was without question, and sacrifices were always a huge part of her life.

Valeria departed this life victoriously in Christ Jesus on April 4, 2019.  Leaving this present world and her body ravished by pain and suffering, she was ushered into a new life on the celestial shores of heaven to be present with the Lord – where the suffering of this life cannot follow.  She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Breana Phillips (Scott Anderson, father); her mother and father, Elders Larry and Ruby Phillips; her sister, Sonya; a brother, Larry L. Phillips, II; six nephews, Corey, Brandin, Kimani, Darius Jayden, and Kulin; one niece, Krystle; one great-niece, Amyiah; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, friends, and church family.

The last time I saw Tracy , , she was happy, beautiful, and proud of her daughters accomplishments! We talked , hugged and laughed , then before we departed we kissed and wished each other well, She was a unique person, and she definitely has lived, loved, and laugh! God needed her , her body is gone but her love, spirit and legacy will live forever! She will be missed, but she is with God walking around heaven and praising all day! To the Phillip's and extended family , God will wrap his arms around each one so that you feel his love for Tracey and each and everyone of you! God Bless you all! Lastly but not least to Breana, I know moving forward will be difficult, but as each day goes by, U will see that your Mom has equipped with all the things you need, I love you and will always be here for you, nothing will change that,I pray a beautiful day for you for the Services, and that God will give the strength to get through this day ! Love you to pieces!

January 15th, 2019 - In typical Tracey fashion, she reached out for nothing more than to simply say 'Hi'. I've known Tracey for over 20yrs. Music brought a collaborative group of people together back in the 90's. She was part of that group. I would write the music and she the lyrics. Still to this day, I have tracks packed away somewhere that were written just for her. Through the years as we all grew up and traveled in different directions, she always found a way to stay connected. I often smiled when I received Holidays Wishes, Birthday Wishes or just a simple 'Hey Mr. Keez, how are you? Lady Singer, you are missed! Too young to leave this world and those that love you, but we must have Faith in knowing that when our Father calls us Home, it's for a purpose. Sleep in eternal peace. The body now rests, yet the soul is free. You will live on in our memories. I ask the God touch the family and allow favor and blessings to shine. Breana, you stay strong just like I remember the strength and character of your Mom. You will be alright. Your Dad is like a brother to me. You are not alone. God Bless.

The last time I saw Tracey was when I came ti South Carolina in 2014. She took us back to the Bus terminal to come back to NY. We hung out at the mall, did some shopping and ate at the restaurants. It was a day filled with excitement. You were such a lively person and there was never a dull moment when you were around. Sorry you had to leave so soon but God is faithful! He never make a mistake. Cheers to eternal rest where we will all meet again in the sweet by and by!
