Charles "Billy" Eaddy. Bernard, Von, and Shirley Cheeks were all very good friends when we were kidss. Bernard lived on Bruce Street at the time, and my family lived on Chestnut Street. We loved to play 'cowboys," watched TV at his or my house. Von and Shirley were a bit younger, and didn't run as much. I contacted Bernard once since we were older, and was Facebook ffriends with Von. I truly missed my Friend, and pray for the peace , and God's streength for his family.

I was a next-door neighbor to Bernard when we both were young teens. He was 3-4 years older. Always looked up to "Nut" as a smart, and talented young man. I wanted to emulate some of what I saw in him early on. Like many of us, he would spend some after school days at the Phillis Wheatley Center on Broad Street in Greenville. Nut played basketball for the St. Anthony School team. I remember him as an excellent ball player for the school. Most of my friends, including Peabo Bryson, loved watching St. Anthony play. I believe St. Anthony (boys and girls) won many of the championships held at the center. I think I remember Barnards sister playing for the St. Anthony girls team. It's been a while so I hope my memory isn't playing tricks on me with this history. We thought we actually ruled the center, including the upstairs basketball courts, unless Mr. Tiny Smith, or Ms. Bobby Jean Clinkscales was around.
My sincere condolences to "Von" and the rest of the Bell family. I wish you all God speed.

Best,
Jim Winestock

Bell Family,
Peanut and I grew up together as friends and later lived in the same neighborhood as adults. I'll miss his big smile and warm hugs.
Wishing you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Janice Smith
