Mrs. Bernice A. Crawley, daughter of the late Purcell Crawley and Marie Bright, was born in Charles City County, Virginia, on September 3, 1929, and entered into eternal rest, April 15, 2019, at McCall Hospice House. She attended the public schools of Charles City County, Virginia.
At an early age she joined the Gilfield Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. In 1954, she relocated to Greenville, South Carolina with her three sons, where she worked for various families. She then became owner and operator of Broad Street Café, which later relocated to B & L Lounge on Birnie Street.
She was an active member of the Nicholtown Neighborhood Association. Later in life she joined Rocky Creek Baptist, where she served faithfully. Bernice “Granny” was a good mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she possessed a deep love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Warren Crawley; one grandson, Leon “Chuckie” Crawley, Jr., and all of her siblings.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, two sons, Leon Crawley, Sr., and Roland (Serresa) Crawley, Sr., both of Greenville; two grandsons raised in the home, Roland (LaMisha) Crawley, Jr., and Michael (Tiffany) Crawley, both of Simpsonville; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
