Mrs. Bessie Lou Williams, 77, of 128 Cashmere Drive, Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Greenville Health System. She was a daughter of the late G.W. Smith, Jr., and Elvalina Sullivan Smith.
She was a 1958 graduate of Bryson High School. She was a loyal member of the Shady Oak Baptist Church, where she served formerly as the Children’s Choir Director, organized and was Past President of the Brockman Memorial Choir, Secretary of the Missionaries, Vice-President of the Ushers, Director of the Foggie Inspirational Choir, Member of the Pastor’s Aide, YWA’s, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and also drove the church van. She was such a special woman who loved the Lord and expressed much love to others in so many ways.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nancy Goodwin and brothers, John Henry Smith, Roosevelt Smith and James Earl Smith.
Left to cherish endless memories are her husband, James “Charles” Williams of the home; sons, Carl Anthony Williams of Greenville and Dennis Jerome (Cynthia) Williams of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Mamie (Donnie) Burton and Mary (John) Evans, both of Simpsonville and Shirley Sullivan of Fountain Inn; two brothers, J.W. (Ora Bell) Smith of Greenville and Curtis (Betty) Smith of Fountain Inn; seven grandchildren, Candise A. Williams, Jeremy E. Williams, Quinton Williams, Tavres Williams, Shereika Williams, Anna Redmond and James Brown, Jr., six great-grandchildren; six stepsisters, Pauline Stewart, Margree Robinson, Doris Brewster, Linda Linsey, all of Greenville and Mary McCutchen of Rochester, NY; one stepbrother, Seeker Bruster of Greenville; two aunts, Florance Suber of Simpsonville, and Estee Sullivan of Greenville and a host of other relatives and friends.
