Birdie Beaty

February 5, 1924 — March 1, 2017

On March 1, 2017, the Lord called His daughter, Mrs. Birdie Mae Green Beaty, home to join the loved ones who have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Calvin and Oscar Beaty; her granddaughter, Braggette Johnson, and her siblings, Dorothy Drinkard, Charles, James and Elizabeth Green.

Mrs. Birdie was born February 5, 1924, on a farm in Anderson, South Carolina, to late sharecroppers, Lilly Rogers Green and John Henry Green. After the passing of her mother during her primary years, Birdie and her sister, Minnie were reared by their grandmother, Jenny Rogers, and aunt, Maria Rogers. Birdie completed ninth grade and excelled at reading and writing.

In the late 1940s, she moved to the southern side of Greenville, South Carolina and became a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She has been a faithful member since. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars and served in various organizations, church ministries, and garden clubs. She enjoyed spending quality time and traveling with the senior citizens and her family.

With the support of her community and trust in the Lord, Birdie raised nine productive children as a single parent. Birdie was a values-driven person and believed wholeheartedly in faith, family, kindness, friendship, and serving others. More, Birdie believed in joy. She had a dynamic personality, was quick-witted, funny, and always participated in family skits and pranks. She had a passion for flowers, fashion, food, and interior design. Birdie left a mark of beauty everywhere she went.

She leaves to cherish many fun memories of her family; her dear son, David Lee (Doris) Beaty, Mauldin, SC; daughters: Maxine (Raymond) Beaty of Greenville, SC, Birdie Lee Faulkner of Jacksonville, NC, Barbara (Leon) Sullivan, Deloris (Roosevelt) Brooks, both of Greenville, SC, Minnie Joyce (Kenneth) Smith and Sherline Fields, both of Simpsonville, SC; twenty-one grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Minnie Tate of Greenville SC, Mary Thomas of Bronx, New York, and Geraldine (Odell) Hawthorn of Pelzer, SC and one brother, Jimmy Lee (Margret) Green of Piedmont, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
