Bobbie Tolbert

April 8, 1938 — February 14, 2016

On the morning of February 14, 2016, the angel of silence came to her home and silenced the life of a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Bobbie Jean Tolbert was born April 8, 1938, to the late Pickens Wilson Johnson and Evelyn Pickens Johnson. She was married to the late Melvin Eugene Tolbert Sr. on June 15, 1957. She graduated from Bryson High School in 1957. She joined her husband at the Reedy River Baptist Church and supported him as a trustee’s spouse.

Bobbie Jean’s life work began caring for the infants at Laurel Drive Day Care for a number of years. She then began a life of caring for families including the Collins and Richardson families for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Barbara Ann Tolbert and a son, Melvin Eugene Tolbert, Jr.

She will be missed by those who shared the joys of life with her and remain to cherish her fond memories include her devoted daughters; Della Marie Ferguson and Annette (Stanley, Sr.) Hunt both of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Katrice Ferguson, Stanley (Kimberly) Hunt Jr., Bridney Hunt and Dexter (Fiancé, Keyera) Ferguson; four great-grands who loved her greatly, Chanley Hunt, Nehemiah Hunt, Bethany Hunt, and Cornelius Ferguson; four sisters, Ella Lewis (Willie) Ladson, Bennie Lee Johnson, and Dorothy Jean Thomas all of Greenville, SC and Evelena Ewing of Washington, DC; one brother, Billy Joe Johnson of Greenville, SC; in-laws, Bobby Lewis (Barbara) Tolbert, Daisy (Ralph) Young and Geneva Martin; two devoted caregivers, Loretta Wilson and Teresa Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, neighbors and friends.
