Calvin Mayes

Mr. Calvin “Fat” Mayes, Sr., 84, of Laurens, South Carolina, passed on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at National Healthcare in Laurens. He was a son of the late Jessie Mayes and Lydia Whatley Mayes.
Calvin was a resident of National Healthcare since 1999; the staff at the Center loved him. Each morning he would get in his car (wheelchair) to check on the other patients. The staff had him spoiled like a baby.
His most enjoyable moment was when his family would give him $1.00 so he could buy a Pepsi, his favorite drink. His favorite holiday was Christmas so he could tell Santa what he wanted: a watch, a radio and a wallet.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Mayes and Jessie Mayes, Jr.; and three sisters, Annie Mayes Evans, Hazel Mayes Todd and Betty Mayes Sherman.
Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are two sisters, Bessie Caldwell of Greenville, SC, and Juanita Watson of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Melvin (Shirley) Mayes of Greenville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
