May 4, 1941 — June 12, 2017

.
Carolyn Garrison McDow was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late J.C. and Edith Young on May 4th, 1941. Carolyn was the only child. After graduating from the historic Sterling High School in 1959, Carolyn moved to Hempstead, New York in 1961, where she attended Nassau Community College and graduated with an associates degree in Nursing (LPN). At the age 22, she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Clyde Benjamin McDow. They were married in June of 1962, from there they moved to Freeport, New York and resided there for 36 years and raised 5 beautiful children. Carolyn worked at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY. She was a caring, dedicated, well respected nurse who loved her patients dearly. After dedicating 30 years to her nursing career with NUMC, she retired in November of 1996. Carolyn then returned to Greenville SC, and later resided in Greer SC.

During her 'twilight years' Carolyn was busy traveling, enjoying and living life. She was able to travel the world with close friends and family. She held a major role in the organization of the Young - Garrison family reunions. Carolyn also participated in planning The Sterling High School Reunion projects “Keeping the memory alive”. Carolyn was an extraordinary lady who had a heart of gold. She gave genuine, unconditional love to all those she came across. Whenever a problem arose she would open up her home to those in need and share all that she had. Everybody was important to Carolyn, but her children, grandchildren and her first great-granddaughter held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Clyde Benjamin, Jr.

Carolyn’s last words were, "I lived a great life with no regrets." She rededicated her life to Jesus Christ on March 13, 2017. Carolyn ended her journey and transitioned home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2017. Carolyn leaves to celebrate her legacy, her husband, Clyde McDow; three daughters, Angela McDow, Yvette (Thomas) Williams, Yvonne (Ronald) Drain; one son, Robert McDow; seven grandchildren, Imani Williams, Jade Drain, Nia Williams, Clyde McDow, Jazmin Drain, Tamar Johnson, Jordan Drain; one great-grand-daughter, Sasha Muratova; one aunt, Alice Solomon; close cousin, Barbara Lomax; cousin, Martha Gaines; special nieces, Annetta McFarlin and Mercedes Cunnigham; special nephews, Lamarcus Harris, Aaron Keys, James Moore and Booker Moore and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
