Ms. Carolyn A. King, age 79, of Alexandria Virginia, peacefully transitioned on Thursday morning, June 24, 2021. She was born March 12, 1942, in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Mildred Bonner and George Lake Jr. Carolyn was preceded in death by her three brothers James, Robert, and John Adair, all of Greenville, South Carolina.
Carolyn was a devoted employee of Alexandria City Public Schools for 29 years before retiring in 2009. A true mother, Carolyn was a staple in her community. Her strong presence was felt by everyone she encountered. From home cooked meals to raising children in her community, she left an impression on everyone’s life. She was an active member of the Saunders B Moon Senior Citizens Club and served as President for two years. She was also a member of the 55+ Social Club. During her free time, she enjoyed bowling, traveling, visiting casinos, and celebrating with family at the annual Wilson, Lake, & Herbert Family Reunion.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family. She leaves to cherish her memories, her three children, Joyce Mangum, Denise King, and Joe King Jr. (Pamela) of Alexandria Virginia. One brother, Charles Brock (Elizabeth) of Mauldin, South Carolina. Three granddaughters, Jamika Helem (Cavin), Brandi White (Morris), and Kennise Baker. Four great-grandchildren, Morgan White, Harper Stone, Brendan White, and Langston White. Three aunts, Gertrude Brown of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Margaree Burdine of Mauldin, South Carolina, and Mary Ann Lake of Piedmont, South Carolina. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
