Carrie Bennett

November 6, 1927 — March 6, 2018

.If ever there was a ray of sunshine on earth, her name was Carrie Elizabeth Bennett.  She celebrated her 90th birthday on November 5, 2017, with those she loved; her brother and sister-in-law, nieces and nephews.  Formerly of 10 Boling Road, Taylors, South Carolina, Ms. Bennett entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at McCall Hospice House after a brief illness.

Ms. Bennett graduated from Taylors Rosenwald High School and attended Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was employed by the Greenville County School District for many years. After her retirement, she cared for the elderly. Ms. Bennett joined Saint Matthew United Methodist Church in Taylors at an early age and remained a faithful member. She was a dependable usher and a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, the United Methodist Women, and the Senior Choir.

Although she was never married or had any children of her own; she was everyone's mother away from home.  Ms. Bennett spent much of her life nurturing the children and grandchildren of her brothers, sisters and cousins.  She was the youngest child of fourteen born in Greenville County to the late Preston Asbury and Mattie Blanche Smith Bennett.

She was predeceased by twelve of her brothers and sisters:  Julius, Henrietta, Hudson, Jessie, Susie, Louella, Edna, Dolly, Dora, Robert, Preston Jr., and William.

Miss Bennett is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Eustace and Georgia Bennett of Taylors, SC; nephews, Spencer (Sharon) Bennett, Luther Bennett and Kenneth Bennett, all of Taylors, Harold (Janet) Bennett of Huntington, IN, Henry (Dorothy) Bennett of Riverside, CA, Julius Bennett of Houston, TX, Guy V. Bass of Asheville, NC, and Michael Thomas of Buffalo, NY; nieces, Pamela (Curtis) Askew of Greer, SC, Gail (Robert) Patrick of Greenville, SC, Dorothy Kelley, Linda Bennett and Helen Thompson, all of Taylors, SC, Carol W. Bennett of Piedmont, SC, Margie Bennett of Buffalo, NY, Edna Ward of Fort Washington, MD, Patricia (James Ray) Blassingame of Orangeburg, SC, Delores (John) Peoples of Columbia, MD, Connie (Paul) Ray of Ellicott City, MD and Deborah Harris of Columbia, SC; a cousin, Montez H. Bennett of Taylors, SC; and generations of other nieces, nephews and cousins. We loved her dearly, but God loves her best!

She will be laid to rest at Greenville Memorial Gardens beside her sister, Jessie and brother William "Bill" Donald Bennett.
