Mrs. Carrie Mae Thompson Smith was born on May 17, 1928, in Greenville, SC. She departed this life on October 27, 2015, at Quillen Manor Assisted Living Facility. She was the daughter of the late John T. Johnson and Mattie Rogers Thompson.
She attended Chapman Grove School and graduated from Sterling High School. She was a retiree from the Poinsett Hotel and was a dedicated volunteer with the Greenville Health System (formerly Greenville Memorial Hospital) for many years.
She joined the New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life she united with the St. Paul Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health declined. She was a member of the Senior Missionary and the choir.
She was preceded in death by her son, Norwood Smith, Jr.
Left to cherish her many fond memories are two sisters, Mary Dawkins of Baltimore, MD and Lily Mae Brown of Columbia, SC; one granddaughter; two nephews, Charles Wright and JD Jones, Jr.; one special cousin and former caregiver, Larvenia Pepper and a host of other nieces, nephews and loving relatives and friends.
