Mrs. Cherry Lee “Pookie” Mitchell, 80, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at her home. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie Bell Kelly King.
She attended Sterling High School. She was formerly employed as a seamstress at Best Manufacturing Company and also worked in food service for Greenbriar Elementary School.
She was a dedicated member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Ministryuntil her health began to decline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Monroe Mitchell, Jr.; sisters, Nellie Freeman, Elsie Mae Chiles, Lois Jamison, Mary Lee Fisher and Winifred Sullivan and a brother, Rufus Freeman.
Fond memories will always be treasured by her three daughters, Cora (John) Heyward of Greenville; Sharon Burts of Simpsonville, Teresa Mitchell of Easley, and two sons, Monroe Mitchell, III, of Spartanburg and Marco Mitchell of Greenville; two brothers, Louis (Lillie) King, Sr., and Joe Larry (Anna) King, both of Greenville; seven grandchildren, LaTonya (Wayne) Gaymon, Regginald Heyward, Cory (Jessica) Mitchell, Dominique Wells, Treymiere Mitchell, Miles Mitchell and Ja’Velle Heyward; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
