David Jenkins

October 23, 1948 — March 4, 2017

Mr. David Earl “Mack “ Jenkins was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 23, 1948, to the late Leo Napoleon and Berthena Jenkins and departed this life on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Greenville Health System.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Services Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and an Expert (Rifle).

Later in life, he worked with an independent contractor as a carpet installer for over thirty years and was extremely skillful in that field. As a youth, he attended Queen Street Baptist Church and he was well known and liked by many in the West Greenville Community. He was given the nickname “Mack” because he resembled his late father so much (who was also called “Mack”).

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Billy Joe, Cleo and Leo Jenkins; two sisters, Celedia Cheeks and Hilda Lee Jenkins; grandmother, Iola Beeks Hill; three aunts, Grace Gary, Bertha Griffin and Irene Carson; two nieces, Equilla Jenkins Harris and Sonia Jean Cheeks; five cousins, Annie Ruth Goodwin, Betty Jane Hill, Lois Williams, Peggy Ferguson and Ruby Mae Williams and mother of his children, Iola “Bit” Foster.

He leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories: his son, Patrick B. Foster and daughter, Marcella Foster, both of Greenville; two stepchildren, Bridget and Tony Foster, both of Greenville; six grand-children, Jasmine Foster, Shannon Foster, Angelica Foster, Laquisha Foster, Travis McCullough and Tiara Foster; four great-grandchildren, Shytria and Sommer Foster, Malachi Payne and Ja’Caden Foster, all of Greenville; one devoted niece/caretaker, Karen Jenkins (Thomas) Gray of Easley and one other niece, Sabrina Jenkins of Greenville; two nephews, Anthony “Flip” Jenkins and Darius (Tonya) Jenkins, both of Greenville; three great-nephews, Arthur Ferguson, Leo Jermaine Cheeks and Michael Jenkins, all of Greenville; four great-great-nephews, Marquis Walker, Malik Cheeks, Raquan and Adden Sherman, all of Greenville; eight great-nieces, Shyunta Cheeks, Tara Cheeks, Gwendolyn Nicole Jenkins, Ashley Jenkins, Shamari Young, Jekeyia Hewins, Daria and Karah Jenkins, all of Greenville; three great-great-nieces, Nautica, Sonya and Leonna Cheeks, all of Greenville and a host of other relatives and friends.
