Deacon Charles Lee Brockman was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on May 31, 1937. He was the tenth of eleven blessings born to the late Mr. Isaac A. Brockman and the late Mrs. Addie Mae Smith Brockman. After 79 years of life, the Lord called him to his heavenly home on July 13, 2016.
Deacon Brockman accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of the Lowndes Hill Baptist Church. He loved his church and served faithfully as a deacon and as a member of the Sunday School. Deacon Brockman loved to sing and used his high tenor voice to lead songs during devotion and throughout the worship service. He was a member of the Lowndes Hill Male Chorus, Gospel Chorus, and the Sanctuary Choir. In his younger years, he served as athletic director for the church while coaching the Lowndes Hill Girls Softball Team. Before his health declined, he served alongside his brother, “Cecil”, as groundskeeper for the church.
On February 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, the former Jean A. Neely. To this union, four daughters were born.
Deacon Brockman was educated in the Greenville County School System. He was employed by Texize/Dow Brands Corporation for 38 years before his retirement. After his retirement, he worked as a mechanic at his home and loved tending to his garden. He was truly a “jack of all trades!”
Affectionately known as “Uncle Charles” by relatives, church members, and people throughout the community, Deacon Brockman served as a father figure to many. Always known to keep it real, he was never shy when it came to giving his opinion. He was very outgoing and loved to laugh. He loved sports, but he especially loved the Carolina Panthers and the Clemson Tigers. His humor, wit, and wisdom touched all who came into contact with him. His infectious smile and loving, caring spirit was a blessing to all who knew him. He had an unconditional love for his family and his church.
