Deacon Claude Dawson

.Deacon Claude W. Dawson, Sr., 87, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on June 3, 2017. Born in Abbeville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert and Katie Childs Dawson.

He was educated in the public school systems of Abbeville and Greenville Counties. He was a retired truck driver after over 30 years at John D. Hollingsworth on Wheels.

He was a former member of the Macedonia FBH Church and after marriage he joined the Lowndes Hill Baptist Church. He was a former church bus and van driver, a member of the Men’s Chorus, a Trustee, a Deacon, and a Sunday School Teacher. He was also affiliated with the Prince Hall Masons Lowndes Hill Lodge #319.

He loved visiting family and friends, walking, eating and keeping himself well dressed in his suits.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his only child, Claude W. Dawson, Jr.; one sister, Mary Ann Burt and six brothers, John Robert Dawson, Arthur Dawson, Thomas Dawson, Charles Dawson, James Dawson and Roy Lee Dawson.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his wife, Eleanor Dawson, of the home; sister, Gladys Eleacer, of Rahway, NJ; brother, Odell Dawson, of Southfield, MI; daughter-in-law, Linda M. Dawson; two grandchildren, Alesha Dawson and William M. Dawson; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
