Deacon Gregory Tyrone “Big G” Harris, 68, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at McCall Hospice House. He was a son of Mildred Dixon Tate and the late Joseph “Joe” Harris.
Greg Harris was a coach and mentor for many youth and helped shape their lives to become great men. He was a Drywall Specialist for 30 years, the entrepreneur/ owner of Harris Drywall. He was a passionate coach for the women’s softball and also played men’s softball.
He joined age an early age the Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He also enjoyed singing in several choirs of the church. He was one of the funniest and most charismatic men to ever walk the earth. He was transparent and never hesitated was ever afraid, “to tell it like it is”.
He loved his wife more than himself and cherished his family. He will truly be missed, but always remembered by all.
Surviving along with his mother, are his loving wife, Shirley Trapp Harris of the home; three daughters, Venus (Romeo) Acker of Biloxi, MS, Tiffany Harris of Simpsonville, SC, and Detra Harris of Greenville, SC; one son, Tywan (Diana) Harris of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Sandra Tate of Bridgeport, CT; four brothers, Larry Harris, of Bridgeport, CT, Calvin (Pandora) Tate of Arlington, TX, Ronald Tate of Greenville, SC, and Jeffrey Tate of Bridgeport, CT; eight grand-children; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
