Deacon James Isaac “Buddy” Weir was born on March 22, 1930, in Abbeville, South Carolina, and was a son of the late Ambrose and Martha McCullough Ware. He departed this life on February 18, 2018, at Greenville Health System.
He was educated in the Abbeville County School System and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired after twenty years of service from the J.P. Stevens Company. From pulpwood to picking cotton, James Weir was a hardworking man, sometimes taking a couple of jobs at a time or whatever it took to provide for his family. He was a member of the New Hope Outreach Center in Greenville, South Carolina, Pastor Joseph Garrison.
A true soldier has laid down his sword and shield. Deacon Weir served in many ministries throughout the Abbeville and Greenville areas, wherever the Lord chose to use him or he saw the need to serve. Deacon Weir was a true man of God, who really loved the Lord and expressed it daily through song and his beautiful smile.
Gospel music was his forte, especially quartet style. He managed the Traveling Harmonizers of Abbeville, S.C. and the Weir Family, who produced a CD on which he wrote the song, “I Believe There’s a Heaven Somewhere”. He also loved using his talents of playing the guitar and piano/organ to bless the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Sallie Weir.

Weir of Atlanta, GA, Otis (Carolyn) Weir of Greenville, Michael (Tasha) Weir of Easley and George Ambrose Weir of Atlanta, GA; four daughters, Sallie Weir, Alice (Daryl) Dendy, Cathy Weir and Minister Earlene (John) Valentine, all of Greenville; one sister, Rev.
