Deacon LeRoy Nesbit

November 29, 1941 — April 6, 2019

Deacon LeRoy Nesbit, 77, of Greenville, South Carolina, was called home on April 6, 2019, surrounded by loving his family at St. Francis Hospital Downtown.

A graduate of Howard High School Class of 1961, in Georgetown, South Carolina, he later joined the United States Army and excelled as a marksman. Not only a natural solider, Deacon Nesbit, was the armor bearer and drummer accompanying the guest revivalist, when he met his soon-to-be bride Nettie Mae Tarrence. They were wed in 1964 and was blessed with 54 years of marriage.

Affectionately touting that he was made of "money, marbles, and chalk", Deacon Nesbit, worked at Poe Textile Mill (17yrs) and Michelin NA Inc. (29yrs) to provide a comfortable living for his family. He is most known for his love of ice cold Pepsi, Old Spice, bowling, and twice a day workouts at the gym.

Strong in his faith and love for the church, he served faithfully as the deacon of Mtn. View Holiness Church under Pastor Lillie Rookard and later Pastor Joseph Allen. At his death, he continued his over 53 years of deacon service under Bishop Mary Jackson at Mtn. View Temple of Praise.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, his bride, Nettie Nesbit; two daughters, Shirlene (Darryl) White of Mint Hill, NC, and Sonia Nesbit of Charlotte NC; two sons, Mark (Lashawn) Nesbit of Greenville, SC, and John (Nichelle) Nesbit, Moore, SC; one brother, Woodrow (Waltina) Nesbit, Sr, Georgetown, SC; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two god-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; Wilhelmina Snow and Nellie Herman; three brothers, Ezekiel Nesbit, Jr., James Nesbit, and Herman Nesbit; and one great-granddaughter, Arriana Jenkins.

And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God and to them who are the called according to His Purpose.
