Deacon Richard Suber, affectionately called “Richard Lee” by our mom, was born on November 11, 1949, to Florence Sullivan Suber and the late Matthew Suber, Sr. On Monday, July 15, 2019, the Lord sent His angel down to receive His child, and found Dad waiting with his soul packed and ready for that glorious journey. Now, he is resting in the sweet bosom of our Father, where he will only know joy and have everlasting peace.
Dad united in holy matrimony with our mom, Gladys C. Brown, and joined her in membership at Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He wore many hats, serving as the Business Manager, Chairman of Deacon Ministry, Sunday School and New Members Teacher, Male Chorus and many more hats just as he did in life. He was also a member of Holly Spring Lodge #150, Holly Spring Chapter #31, Azah #140 and the United Supreme Council #33. He retired from G.E. as a Computer Programmer.
Dad was an avid lover of many things; golfing, fishing, racing, bowling, chess, antique cars and of course, those Clemson Tigers. Go Tigers!!
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Larry Suber; and one sister, Josephine Hunter.
Also known to his family as “Papa”, Dad leaves to cherish many memories, a beloved wife, Gladys, and one daughter, Tamela LaShay Suber, of the home; one son, Derrick Lamar (Sheila) Suber, of Shelby, NC; five grandchildren, Aviyana, Lamaria, Ciera, Allen and Ramiya; his mother, Florence Sullivan Suber of Fountain Inn, SC; four sisters, Mildred (David) Watts of Gray Court, SC, Mary (Mike) Fowler of Greenville, SC, Elaine (Walt) Hewens of Fountain Inn, SC, and Nellie Suber of Simpsonville, SC; one brother, Matthew (Althea) Suber, Jr., of Simpsonville, SC.; two goddaughters, Antonia and Olivia Young; two godsons, LaTwon and Tyrie Fowler; a niece, Justice, who was reared as a grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends who he loved dearly.
