Deacon Wade H. Garrett of Piedmont, South Carolina, was born September 19, 1935, in the County of Greenville, South Carolina.. He was the eldest son of the late A.C. Garrett and Corrie Mae Harrison Garrett.
Mr. Garrett attended Greenville County Schools, after which he immediately enrolled in the United States Army, where he served for two years. Later, Mr. Garrett worked diligently and retired from the Air Products Company. He was well-respected and appreciated by his co-workers.
In 1957, Mr. Garrett married the love of his life, the former Mary Young of Greenville. To this union were born four delightful children: Loretta, Deborah, Wade and Marcella. This year, 2017, marked sixty years of devotion and joy as a couple.
Outside of the home, Mr. Garrett enjoyed fishing, grilling and taking long walks. He enjoyed being outside in the fresh air and was always keeping his hands and mind busy.
A faithful servant of God, Mr. Garrett received Christ at an early age and was baptized into the Baptist Church family. As a young man he was always active in Baptist Training Union. In 1968, at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, he was ordained as a Deacon and served 40 years and was celebrated in 2008, as Deacon Emeritus. Tirelessly serving as Sunday School Teacher, Mr. Garrett accepted the responsibility of a twenty- year history of serving as Sunday School Superintendent. Later, he humbly served as President of the Sunday School Superintendents Forum as well as Dean of the Reedy River Association's Congress of Christian Education. Bible Study was a high priority for him and he instilled a passion for God’s word into his children and grandchildren.
When he was not at church or with his family, you could find Mr. Garrett in the community volunteering in whatever capacity needed. He was passionate about caring for the elderly.
Early Thursday morning, August 3, 2017, God, Our Heavenly Father, called Deacon Garrett to his Heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edna Garrett.
Deacon Garrett’s memory and great legacy will linger with his loving and devoted wife, who never left his side, Mary Young Garrett. His abundant love will always flow through the hearts of his children, Loretta Garrett of Piedmont, South Carolina, Deborah (Rev Milton) Dean of Waverly, Ohio, Wade (Cassandra) Garrett of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Marcella Hughes of Huntsville, Alabama; his brotherly love will be ever cherished and held dear by his sisters, Annie Mae (King B.) Jeffcoat of Columbia, South Carolina, Mildred (Jesse) Stoddard of Piedmont, South Carolina; and his brother, Alfred Garrett of Augusta, Georgia; and the sweet sound of his voice will resonate through the spirit of his beautiful grandchildren, Charles J (Jen) Dean, Kendall Garrett, David Hughes, Leah Garrett and Kyle Garrett as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, church family, friends and community.
