Mr. DeWitt Jackson, son of the late Claude L. and Susie Hill Jackson, departed this life on Friday, November 10, 2017, at his home. He was born June 21, 1920, in Greenville County. He joined Reedy Fork Baptist Church at an early age and attended Greenville County Schools and graduated from Bettis Academy in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He was a World War II veteran of the 92nd Buffalo Division, where he was wounded in action and earned several medals, including the Purple Heart.
Preceding him in death were brothers, William, Harold and Floyd Jackson; sisters, Hattie Bee Jackson Howell, Willie Mae Jackson Buckner, Claudia Jackson Dennis and Juanita Jackson Edwards.
Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Barbara Jeanne Jackson; two sisters, Alice Greggs and Penny McDonald, both of Greenville, SC; children, Shirley (Roger) Thompson, Paralee (Pat) Jackson, Dwight (Dwana) Jackson, Ransom Jackson, Roger Dean (Pamela) Jackson, Debra (Ewing) Thompson, DeWitt (Josephine) Jackson, Renee Lester, Denise (Willie) Dowdy, Beverly (Daryl) Davis, Nicole (Michael) Bateman, and Tony Jackson, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; stepchildren, Bruce (Donna) Warren of Santa Ana, California, Patricia (Richard) Chatman, Steven Warren, Elaine (Randy) Greggs, Gregory (Tammy) Warren, Denise Ford, and Jackie Ford, all of Greenville, South Carolina; several grandchildren, great-grand-children and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
