Dorothy Butler

September 30, 1933 — January 9, 2017

Mrs. Dorothy Mayes Butler was born to the late John Henry and Ruth Kerns Mayes on September 30, 1933, in Greenville, South Carolina. She closed the last chapter of her life on January 9, 2017, at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

She joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age where she was a faithful member until her health declined. She was a member of the Senior Missionary and the Gospel Senior Choir. She retired from the Greenville County School District, and she also retired from private sitting.

She was co-owner of the Struggles Family Restaurant in Easley,Anderson and Greenville, South Carolina where she loved to cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Butler, Sr.; daughters, Mary Jane Butler and Barbara Ann Butler; grandson, Javar Elgin Butler; sisters, Fannie Madden, Irene Mayes, Geneva Hagood, and Annie Lou Mayes; and brothers, Woodrow, Norwood, John Willie, Leroy Mayes and George, Sr., Haywood, Sr., and Willie, Sr., Smith.

She leaves to cherish many fond memories, her daughter, Sheryl (Walter) Edens of Easley, South Carolina; sons, Preston Butler of Greenville, South Carolina, Roosevelt (Almetia) Butler, Jr., of the home; thirteen grandchildren, Terrance (Deidre) Butler, Sparkle (Lee) Farley of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Trilissia (Damien) Butler Williams of Easley, South Carolina, Kendra Butler of Easley, South Carolina, Tamera, Damien Lykes of Greenville, South Carolina, Sikeo, Revis, Rokesha Butler of Greenville, South Carolina, Tameka, Timothy Dennis of Greenville, South Carolina, Ismeal Moore of Baltimore, Maryland, and Yavonda Dennis of Atlanta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren reared in the home, Tikius Parks and DiTavius Butler; sixteen other great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Middleton of Cincinnati, Ohio; aunt, Geneva Kerns Smith of Greenville, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mayes, Patirica Butler, Rosalee Byrd, Laura Butler and Clemtine Smith; brother-in-law, Howard Butler; and a host of other relatives and friends.
