Sister Dorothy Sherman Mims Gantt was born, May 13, 1938, to the late Rev. A. B. and Mother Elizabeth Sherman in Greenville County, South Carolina. At her demise, she made her home in Greenville with her husband, Brother Marvin Gantt, Sr., whom she loved and adored. Sister Gantt went home to be with the Lord, on November 22, 2019. She was a member of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Curtis Johnson.

Sister Gantt was born again and filled with the Holy Spirit at age fifteen, and for forty-eight years, was the faithful and loving wife of the late Rev. Silas Mims. She labored alongside him in the Gospel ministry for forty years.

She believed in the Word, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” She was the mother of four daughters, Dorothy Mims Earle (Johnny), Deborah Faye Mims Walton (Tommy), Gwendolyn Elaine Mims, Sonji Rene’ Mims Adams (Pastor Aaron); one son, Silas Henry Demetrius Mims; she has eight grandchildren, Rodney Mims (Cindy), Tiffany Earle Henson (Edgar), Amanda Wilson (Darrell), Corey Mims (Stephanie), Jasmine Adams, Patrice Adams, Avery Adams, Alexandria Mims and twelve great-grandchildren, along with her marriage to Mr. Gantt, he added two sons, Marvin Gantt, Jr. (Karen), Leonard Gantt and two grandchildren to their family. Dorothy is also survived by her six sisters Evangelist Mary Miller, Rev. Clorine Redmond (Rev. Grant), Sadie Johnson (William), Beatrice Hawthorne (Rev. Ralph), Eugenia Latimore, Geneva Sizemore (Toby); and four brothers, A. B. Sherman Jr., Rev. Gary Sherman (Pamela), Jimmy Sherman (Mildred) and Harry Sherman (Patsy); two sisters-in-law, Isabella Todd and Nanie Mae Mims. She has many spiritual daughters and sons, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Sister Gantt was lifelong learner of the Word of God. She exemplified the scripture, “Study to show thyself approved unto God,” and completed a 10-year personal study of the Bible where she took notes on the entire Bible, every chapter and verse. She also completed many Home Bible Study Courses and further studied for the Word of God through the Local, State, and National Baptist Conventions. Dorothy felt that her gift and call from God was to teach, lecture, and counsel from the Word of God to benefit the Body of Christ and to promote the spiritual health and growth of the church. Well done thou good and faithful servant!
