Mrs. Edith Catherine Durham Thomason, 91, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Magnolia Place of Greenville. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Larthun L. and Lilla Childs Durham.
At an early age, Edith confessed Christ and joined Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Following marriage, she joined Enoree Fork Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful servant for over seventy years. She served devotedly as a Deaconess, Missionary, Pastor’s Aide member, women’s choir member, flower club member and a diligent worker in the youth ministry. Edith was also a member of the Eastern Star Moore’s Chapter #180 for thirty-three years.
After an early retirement from Kemet Electronics, she threw her energy into what she loved most: serving others. Edith devoted her time to visiting and helping the sick and shut-in, volunteering, being a mentor for youth and lifting others. She was one who could be counted upon to be there in times of need. Her joyous spirit was inviting to everyone she met.
Edith was “Mama” to many and anchored the family with her faith, authenticity and sense of humor. Her legacy is carried on by her children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick D. Thomason; three sisters, Louise Gary, Gladys Glover and Lottie Chiles and five brothers, Willie R. Durham, Conway Durham, Jonah Durham, Herman Durham and Theodore Durham.
