Elna McGowens

Mrs. Elna Mae McGowens, 102, of 370 Rock Quarry Road, Travelers Rest, passed away on August 8, 2014 at McCall Hospice House. Born in Boston, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Davis and Emma Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Samuel David McGowens, a daughter, Gladys Naomi McGowens Foster, and two sons, Rev. Jefferson Davis (J.D.) McGowens and Deacon Willie Raymond McGowens.

Left to cherish her memories: a son; Dr. Robert L. (Terry) McGowens, Sr. of Charlotte, NC: daughters-in-law; Telora Gray McGowens and Mary Ann Blassingame McGowens, both of Travelers Rest: son-in-law; Samuel Foster of Greenville: twenty grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren, and twenty-five great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Saturday, August 16, 2014, 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Funeral Service: Saturday, August 16, 2014, 2:00 PM at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
