Ethel Black

The sun rose on the life of Ethel Mae Oliver Black, better known to many as “Sis”. She was born in Pickens County to the late Frank and Ella Oliver. On the afternoon of Thursday, March 21, 2019, the sun set on the long life of this strong lady, our beloved “Sis” at her home in Greenville, South Carolina at ninety-four years young she has deservingly taken her rightful place of rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Sis” was united in marriage to the late Joe Henry Black, who predeceased her in the mid 1960S, through this union they had six children; Betty Lee, who preceded her in death, Sandra Yvonne, Mary Francis, William Joe and Michael, who preceded her in death and Joseph A.

“Sis” was employed as a domestic for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Redemption World Outreach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Henry Black; and a grand-daughter, Felicia Nicole Williams.

“Sis” was best known by her strength, her resilience, her sense of humor, and unbridled candor with her own feistiness and speaking her mind.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her love, her wisdom, infectious smile and boisterous laughter, two daughters, Sandra (BF) Blassingame of Easley, SC, and Mary (James) Williams of Greenville, SC; one son, Joseph (Charlene) Black of Greenville, SC; a daughter-in-law, Ann Black of Easley, SC; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Fannie Mae Cureton of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

“Sis” will surely be missed by all who loved her and had the pleasure of her acquaintance over these many years.
