Mrs. Ethel Griffin Maxwell, 105, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Poinsett Rehabilitation Center. Born in Greenville on April 16, 1912, she was the youngest child of the late William and Lucille Brazel Griffin.
She was educated in the Greenville County School System. At an early age, she went to Charlotte, North Carolina to become a caregiver to a wonderful family where she served for many years.
She attended St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church located at 1600 Norris Avenue in Charlotte, before moving back to Greenville.
Later, she opened a Boarding Home and a Restaurant where she assisted many people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac “Jacob” Maxwell; a son, Larry Thornwell; a stepson, Jerry Lewis Smith; a sister, Irene Griffin Drummond; and a brother, Gusalee Griffin.
Left to treasure many fond memories are one granddaughter, Amanda Thornwell of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
