Mr. Frederick “Spoon” Smith Brooks, 43, of Pelzer, South Carolina, departed this life on Monday, March 26, 2018, at Greenville Health System. He was a son of the late Fred Smith, Jr., and Barthamae Brooks.
“Spoon” was a graduate of Woodmont High School and worked as a forklift driver at Magna Drive. He was a member of Believer of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Fred Cromartie and Wilford “Bear” Brooks; a sister, Annette Alexander-Benson; his maternal grand-parents, Tone Brooks and Charlotte Brooks; his paternal grandparents, Fred Smith, Sr., and Martha Gray-Smith; two aunts, Elizabeth Arnold and Willie Lea Simpson; and two uncles, James E. Smith and Thomas Brooks.
Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his wife, Casey Keller Brooks of Pelzer; one son, Frederick Sincere LeBron Brooks of Pelzer; stepmother, Martha Gaines; he was raised by Diane Gary after his mother passed; seven sisters, Roslyn Benson of Belton, Kimberly Starr (Scott) McFadden of Greenville, Wanda (Willie) Daniels of Williamston, Katrina (Calvin) Norris of Simpsonville, Angela Smith of Pittsylvania, VA, Tracy (Jim) Shoop of Hatten Heights, NJ and Lisa Cromartie of Dover DE; three brothers, David (April) Benson of Simpsonville, Michael Neal of Greenville, and Derrick Thompson of Mauldin; aunts, L. Sylane Smith, Shirley McNeil, Maude Stephens, Annie Smith and Georgia Santos; uncles, Troy Smith, Sr., Clyde Smith, Steve Smith, Dwight Smith, Leroy Smith and Leon Brooks; nieces, Amanda, Annette, Lenora, Quanna, Tonie, Jasmine, Ava, and Radda; nephews, Davius, Deondre’, Mike, Rakeem, Eric, Jai Breon, Travis, Demetrius, Tywon, Carter, and Deidre; mother-in-law, Vickie D.
