George Tilden

July 27, 1971 — March 8, 2015

George Alfred Tilden of Lyman, S.C. was born July 27, 1971 and departed this life peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home. He was the son of Mrs. Sarah B. Tilden and the Late Alfred C. Tilden. George’s was mother instilled in him the Word of God and life values. He was a longtime member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he attended Youth Sunday School and sang in the D.S. Sample Choir. He was a well-loved charismatic young man. In his early years, he attended Hughes Middle School, where he was invited to play with the Drum and Bugle Corps for 3 years. Thereafter, he and his friends started a band, which he was the keyboardist. George was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1989. He was a multi award winning Tuba Player with the Marching Band. He attended South Carolina State University where he met the love of his life, “His Rib” as he would say, Ms. Debra Evans. They were united in marriage on September 21, 1996.

George was employed at Barnet Polymers in Duncan, S.C. as a Production Operator since 1999 until his death. He received a Manufacturing Certification that allowed him to be a part of a WSPA TV 7 interview praising the program. He brought joy and laughter to the workplace and was known for his big personality. George loved God, loved his family, and loved life & touched anyone he met.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing a loving wife Debra E. Tilden of Lyman, S.C., his mother Sarah B. Tilden of Greenville, S.C., Two Aunts Mattie B. Smith of Greenville, S.C., and Gladys T. Davis, New Castle, PA., One “Brother” William A. Goldsmith, Two Uncles James Blanding of San Francisco, CA and Lincoln (Carolyn) Blanding of Lillington, N.C. Four Brother-in-Laws Tyronne Evans, Terry Evans, Michael Coats(Lucinda) and Jimmy Coats(Aline) all of Greenwood, S.C., Three Special Cousins Pastor David V. Smith(Rachel), Darren H. Smith(Valisa) of Greenville, S.C., William “Tony” Goldsmith(Elfreida) Columbia, S.C. (whom he considered a brother) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death his father Alfred Tilden and dearest Aunt Frankie “Lou” Goldsmith.

Services will be held: Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1:30pm at Long Branch Baptist Church - 28 Bolt Street Greenville SC (864) 235-6205.

He will be laid to rest at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
