Mr. Chester and Mrs. Bessie McGowens Williams gave birth to Gracie Louise Blakely on January 15, 1943, in Marietta, South Carolina.
Her Christian upbringing began at the Soapstone Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health declined so suddenly in February, 2016. At an early age, Gracie discovered it was best to be anchored in Christ and she dedicated her life to him as her Lord and Savior. In younger years, she taught Sunday School and later served on the Trustee Board. She will be greatly missed with her Sunday morning praise, worship, prayer and love for quartet music.
Gracie attended Lincoln High School “The Rattlers” and graduated in the class of 1961. She worked at Slater Plant for a very few years and after marriage to Maurice Blakely, she became a homemaker taking care of her husband and home.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Chester Williams.
On Tuesday, March 8th, Gracie went to join our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the sunset, Gracie leaves behind a loving and devoted husband, Maurice Blakely of the home; sisters, Brucie (Dorland) Adams of Marietta, Martha Williams , Rodessa Barton and Libby (Vernon) Sullivan, all of Greenville, Gladys Davis of Travelers Rest, and Gloria (Luke) Todd of Mauldin; devoted friend, Ann Adams; godchild, Kassius Barton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
