Harold Newsome

Harold Lee Newsome was born on September 23, 1927, in Greenville, SC, to the late Yancy and Lillie Sullivan Newsome. He departed this life on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Cascades at Verdae.

Harold was educated in the public schools of Greenville County and graduated from Sterling High School in 1944. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA before being called to serve in the United States Army and the Korean Conflict. He attended South Carolina State College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and later a master’s degree. He married Rosa Stevens in 1952.

His career in education began at Sterling High where he taught many subjects. He later became Assistant Principal at Hillcrest High and Mauldin High Schools until 1987 where he retired.

Harold was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., NEA, SCTA. He and Rosa had the pleasure of traveling to Europe, South America, Asia, China, Africa and Australia, as well as many states in the United States. They also traveled to the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and Canada.

Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosa Stevens Newsome, several nieces and nephews, an uncle, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Herchel McIntosh, Ruby Elrod, twin sister, Hazel Robinson, and brother Louis O. Newsome.
