Horace Blassingame

Mr. Horace “Papa” Blassingame was born February 4, 1938, in Greenville County, South Carolina. He heard the voice of the Lord calling him to take his place in the Heavenly choir Sunday, December 17, 2017, at his home with his dear wife and son, Aldric, holding him.

Horace, "Papa", was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church. Horace participated in Sunday School and Administrative Board and was a soloist on special occasions.

He was a 1956 graduate of Sterling High School and was a school bus driver for four years. He met his wife, Rosa on the school bus. He served four years in the United States Air Force. And retired from Woven Electronics.

Papa loved working in the yard, which was voted best flower yard in the community. He was known as Mr. "Fix it", he was the comedian of the family. He loved traveling with his loving wife. He supported his wife in her ministries, especially Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. He loved taking movies and photos of landscapes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Arelia Blassingame; a brother, James Blassingame Jr.; and a son, Vanrick Blassingame.

He is survived by Rosa, his caring wife of 55 years; three devoted sons, Patrick K. {Melissa} Blassingame of Merritt Island, Florida, Derrick A. {Christina} Blassingame of Cocoa, Florida and Aldric J. Blassingame of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Dorothy Blassingame of Cambridge, MD, Helen { Rev. Alvin } Henderson of Bedford, VA; ten grandchildren, Diane Bailey, Davita {Daniel} Owens, Latonda Allman, Dametria Blassingame, Paul Blassingame, Alissa Blassingame, Kristopher Blassingame, Drarelle Blassingame, Keith {Candace} Blassingame and Jelani Blassingame; sixteen great-grand children; and last living aunt, Sadie Blassingame Chapman of Pittsburgh, PA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
