Jalen Mayes

Mr. Jalen Ta’Kis “J Rock” Mayes, 25, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Friday, January 10, 2020, at North Greenville Hospital. He was a son of Christy Austin and the late Timothy Leroy Mayes.

He attended Berea High School and worked at Berry Plastics in Greenville. He attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father; and paternal grand-fathers, Leroy Mayes and Willie Chapman.

Surviving, along with his mother: his adopted children, Alayah Kirksey, Denaeja Mapp, Dariq Mapp, Jaylen and Jordan, all of Greenville; two sisters, Lateasha (Anthony) Henderson of Travelers Rest, and Natasha Stoddard of Greenville; two brothers, Remario Austin and Timothy “Timmy” Mayes Young, both of Greenville; maternal grandmother, Martha Austin of Greenville; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Mayes of Greenville; seven aunts, Mary Moore, Claudia Brock, both of Greenville, Frances Robinson (William) of Greer, Melissa (Tim) Scott of Piedmont, Sandra (Shawn) Coleman, Pastor Regina (Pastor Mark) Webb Tracey Mayes and Chanvita (Norman) Pearson, all of Greenville; two uncles, Willie (Dale) Austin of Pickens, and James Austin of Greenville; also his Chapman aunts and uncles; six nephews, Jykeveus Austin, Amaziah Austin, Timirian Young, Anthony Henderson, Kymyzie Austin and Knowledge Young; four nieces, Samari Austin, Zikira Henderson, Anyah Henderson and Mariah Austin; and a host of other relatives and friends
