James Austin

Mr. James Calvin “Awk” Austin, Sr., 66, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at his residence. He was a son of the late James C. Austin and Annie Brooks Lyles.

He was a graduate of Berea High School and was employed by the Greater Greenville Sanitation Department. He was a member of Bruton Temple Baptist Church and the Bruton Town Social Club.

Survivors are his wife, Elaine Bennett Austin of the home; one daughter, Africa (James) Gray of Greer; three sons, Jermaine Bennett, Ethan Ballenger and James Calvin Austin, Jr., all of Greenville; two sisters, Shirlene (James) Booker of Simpsonville and Yolanda (James) Dodd of Greenville; seventeen grandchildren; an adoptive family, the Ellis and Dial families; and a host of other relatives and friends.
