James David Thomason

December 15, 1949 — February 18, 2020

Mr. James David Thomason, Sr., 70, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, departed this life on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the eldest son of the late Fredrick David and Edith Durham Thomason.

David graduated from Bryson High School in 1968 and Greenville Technical College in 1970. He worked at General Electric as a machinist until he retired in 2006.  After retirement, he served the Greenville County School System by providing school bus transportation, ensuring that special needs children made it to school and back home safely.  He loved that position immensely.

At an early age, David joined Enoree Fork Baptist Church. He lived life to the fullest. He was an astute businessman and knowledgeable in residential and multi-family real estate. He participated in many activities, including golfing, bowling, boating, riding motorcycles, horseback riding, and enjoyed domestic and international travel with his family and friends. David raced cars briefly in his youth. But best of all, he was kindhearted, intelligent, hard-working, and a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy. He would provide advice and mentorship, even if you did not want it. Combined with his unique vocabulary, he would find a way to make you feel special. David and his wife, Fran, are the owners of two dogs, JoJo and Zen. David’s days were continually brightened by these loyal companions.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Myra Ruth Thomason; former in-laws, Gordon and Mary Goldsmith; and grandson, Anthony Rosario.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his wife, Frances Bowens Thomason of the home; one daughter, Tameka Thomason of Simpsonville, SC; three sons, Homanda (Lisa) Thomason of Simpsonville, SC, James (Marisol) Thomason of Carollton, VA, and Fredrick (Violeta) Thomason of Cibolo, TX; two stepsons, LaShane Cox of Easley, SC, and Nathan (Lauren) Cox of Taylors, SC; two sisters, Jannette Thomas of Greenville, SC, and Clarissa (A.B.) Robinson of Simpsonville, SC; two brothers, L.C. (Cynthia) Thomason of Mauldin, SC, and Aaron Thomason of Piedmont, SC; his father-in-law, William E. Bowens; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
