James Grant

Mr. James A. Grant, son of the late John Robert and Sally Bell Cooley Grant. departed this life on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville. He was born June 4, 1940, in Greenville County.

He joined New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He worked for Firestone Tire Company and Montgomery Ward Company where he retired.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie Grant, John Malvin, David Pullman, George Grant and Clyde Grant; and two stepchildren, William Austin and Billy Austin.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Mamie L. Pitts Austin-Grant of the home; a son, James Anthony (Valerie) Grant of Greenville; three stepdaughters, Sylvia (Ervin) Moore, Deborah Austin, both of Greenville and Pauline Downs of Columbia; one stepson, Ronnie Austin of Greenville; two sisters, Clara (Arthur) Grant Wilson of Simpsonville and Elizabeth Grant of Greenville; one brother, Grady Grant of Greenville; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; one uncle, Nelson Cooley of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Mamie Rosemond Grant of Greenville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
