Mr. James Walter Sweeney. 93, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on October 7, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a son of the late James W. Sweeney and Mamie W. Sweeney Cooley.
He was a graduate of St. Albun School in Simpsonville, SC and retired from the former Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he served in the Brotherhood Ministry. He was a veteran of the United State Army.
Many loved ones preceded him in death including his parents; his wife, Gladys Sweeney; sons, Jerome Sweeney and Andrew Sweeney; sister, Coredus Sweeney Garrett; stepsister, Bernice Cooley Pugh and step-brothers, Alton Cooley, Erskine Cooley, St. Elmore Cooley, Ira Cooley and Rubin “RC” Cooley.
Left to cherish many fond memories are one daughter, Eloise S. (John) Smith of Charlotte, NC; one son, James W. (Dorothy) Sweeney, Jr., of Greenville; one stepsister, Dorothy Scott of Greenville; two step-brothers, Grady (Joyce) Cooley of Mauldin and Wilson Cooley of Greenville; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grand-children; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
