James Thompson

Mr. James Marion “Tonk” Thompson, 83, departed this life on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital System. He was a son of a late Lawrence and Azalee Morton Thompson. He retired from the City of Greenville Public Works Division.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Odessa B. Simpson Thompson; a daughter, Dorothy B. Smith; a brother, Lawrence Richard Thompson; two sisters, Georgia T. Nelson and Margaret T. Wade and a granddaughter, Hope K. Johnson.

Left to cherish many fond memories are four daughters, Judie T. Johnson, Louise H. Thompson and Ola Mary Thompson, all of Greenville and Azlisa T. Owens of Athens, GA; three sons, James L. (Willie Pearl) Thompson and Lawrence F. (Cathy) Thompson, both of Greenville and Michael A. (Margaret) Thompson of Simpsonville; one sister, Ola Mary Thompson Beal of Greenville; thirty grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; twelve great great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
