Jefferson McGowens

Rev. Jefferson Davis “J. D. “ McGowens, 83, of 365 Rock Quarry Road, Travelers Rest, transitioned from time to eternity on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Born in Mulberry, Florida, he was the son of the late Samuel David and Elna Mae McGowens. He was a Purple Heart Korean War Veteran. He also faithfully served as Pastor of Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church for forty-three years.

Left to cherish his memories, in addition to his mother: a loving wife; Telora Gray McGowens of the home: daughter; Bernice (Calvin) Latimore of Travelers Rest, SC, Barbara (Rev. Dr. J. E.) O’Neal of Greenville, SC, Brenda (Marvin) McGowan of Travelers Rest, SC, and Karen McGowens of Greenville, SC: son; Jefferson Davis (Debra) McGowens, Jr. of Greenville, SC: brother; Rev. Dr. Robert E. Lee (Terry) McGowens, Sr. of Charlotte, NC: eleven grandchildren: and eighteen great grandchildren.

Visitation: Monday, May 26, 2014, 6:00 -7:00 PM at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC, Pastor Rev. Da’rryl Hall.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 1:00 PM at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, Pastor Dr. Toney C. Parks, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Travelers Rest, SC.
