Mrs. Jo Ellen White “Granny” Chapple, 79, of Greenville, South Carolina, (West Greenville Community) passed on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at her home. She was a native of Greenville, a daughter of the late John T. and Lena Miles White and wife of the late James L. Chapple.
She was affectionately called “Granny” by all who knew her, including her children. She was educated in the Greenville County School System and was a member of the Queen Street Baptist Church.
Granny’s home was the neighborhood meeting place where people would come to talk, eat and have fun. She was the neighborhood emergency daycare when the children could not go to their regular place. A stay-at-home mom who nurtured her children in every way possible, she attended and supported any functions, activities or sport events in which her children were involved - a very hands own mother. She was well-known for her baking skills, for many years she would make specialty cakes and would win awards or ribbons for her baking.
She loved her family and community. She was a dedicated member of the West Greenville Reunion Committee and she attended all West Greenville functions.
“Granny” was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Lena White; her husband, James L. Chapple; a daughter, Tanja L. White; and a brother, John L. White.
Left to treasure many fond and loving memories are one daughter, Ingrid White Davis of the home; three sons, Ronald (Shawanua) White, Kevin (Renee) White and Leslie (Andrea) White, all of Greenville; four sisters, Dorothy Smalls of Greenville, Margaret Lykes of Simpsonville, Mildred McKelvey of Greenville; and Frances Simpson of Greenville; one brother, Franklin White of Greenville; a granddaughter raised in the home, Ebony White of Greenville; twenty-three other grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
