John Garrett

Mr. John Albert “Hammer” Garrett, 77, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at home. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late John Henry and Mary Elizabeth Wilson Garrett.

“Hammer” was educated in the Greenville County School System. He was formerly employed by Homelite/John Deere/Textron Company for over thirty-five years.

He was formerly a left handed Pitcher for the Raleigh Tigers Negro Minor League Team. He coached the Southside Youth and Patriots Little League for numerous years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Lee Garrett and a nephew, Michael Littlejohn.

Left with many fond memories are his wife, Helen Hunt Garrett of the home; one daughter, Candi Dakota Garrett of Greenville; two sons, John Robert (Tonya) Garrett of Olympia, Washington and Tony Lamar Garrett of Greenville; one sister, Elizabeth (Edward) Littlejohn of Edenton, NC; three brothers, Eugene Garrett, William Garrett, and Charles Garrett, all of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Kalil, Jonathan, Sade’, Savannah, Khaley, Najlia, Christon andNaizomie; one great-grandchild, Dashawn, and a host of other relatives and friends.
