Mr. John Willie “June” Irby, 77, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Patewood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Willie “Pete” Wilson and Rosemary Irby.
He was a educated in the public school system and was a graduate of Sterling High School. “June” was a retired Senior Logistician from the United Parcel Service in New York.
John “June” loved sports, he was an avid football fan where he spent endless hours watching and commenting on every game he could. A great fisherman, his favorite pastime turned into his one true love, well, next to his beautiful life partner, Cora Lee Irby. June was a larger than life figure, but the type of man who never met a stranger - a true friend, who would not, or try to, or would ever want to leave you. Once he and Cora returned home, they both blossomed and excelled in every way possible.
If there were one way to describe June, it would be simply as a great man and a great Father, and to him, we say, “Job Well Done!”
He was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Anthony Irby; a sister, Almena Hudgens and two brothers, Raymond “Slack” Irby and John “Freeman” Bonaparte.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his wife, Cora Lee Williams Irby of the home; daughters, Sharon George of Irvington, NJ and Amy Richardson of Brooklyn, NY; sons, Steven L. (Valerie) Irby of Rosedale, NY, Tony B. (Marian) Irby of Simpsonville, and Russell A. (Tanya) Irby of Orlando, FL; a sister, Juanita (Calvin) Cleveland of Greenville; brothers, Tony (Michelle) Wilson of Mauldin and Jerome Hatton of Greenville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
