Juanita Rosemond Madden

March 8, 1932 — September 19, 2019

Mrs. Juanita Viola “Jack” Rosemond Madden, 87, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on September 19, 2019, at Prisma Health Upstate. She was the daughter of the late Roosevelt Rosemond and Hattie L. Rosemond Mingo.

At the young age of ten years old, Juanita began singing the gospel and joined a gospel group, “The Junior Echos”. Her continued love for gospel led her to later join the gospel group “Gospel Guide”, which visited various churches in the area. The last stop on her gospel journey was singing on the Tabernacle Inspirational Choir.

She was a graduate of Sterling High School, Class of 1950, which was the first graduating class to complete twelve grades. After graduation, she finished nursing school in the first African American class of Sterling School of Practical Nursing. She retired after forty years of service at Greenville Memorial Hospital. She also served her community diligently as the past president of the Staunton Bridge Road Community Club. This group was heavily responsible for writing the grant that made it possible to open the Staunton Bridge Community Center.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Y. Madden; and two brothers, Charles Rosemond and Roosevelt Rosemond.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories, two beloved daughters, LaFawn M. Woody of Mauldin, SC, and Johnnie Y. Madden of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren, Patra (Sergio) Burnside of Greenville, SC, Jamil (Jennifer) Woody of Simpsonville, SC, and Tyrese Robinson of Greenville, SC; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
