A Loving Tribute

Once again, God has dimmed our light. He has with such graceful fairness taken our beloved , June. What remains with us is her loving spirit and cherished memories to be shared amongst her family, her husband Rufus, their son Rommell Demone and wife Kindell ( Dacula, GA) and their children- Morgan, Jocelyn, and Elijah; her daughter La Keisha Delon and Jonathan McMillian (Houston, TX); her extended Edge - May family.

June Delois Edge May departed this life on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. June was born June 18, 1952, in the city of Plains, Georgia to the parentage of Mrs. Julia Mae Moore Edge and the late Deacon Judson Edge, Sr. She was preceded in death by, her most beloved baby boy, Mr. Jamison Denard May and her sister, Ms. Beverly Bogans.

In 1959, June joined the Lebanon Baptist Church where Christianity and faithful servitude became the foundation for which she would center her life. Rufus’ employment has carried their family to Hendersonville, NC, Louisville, KY, Decatur, AL, Columbus, OH, Solon, OH, and Taylors, SC. It was at Taylors, SC that God would heighten her Christian journey at the Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church, in Greenville, SC. During the course of 57 years of devotion, June’s Christian involvement served as a testimony of her faithfulness. She regularly attended Sunday School and worship services. She was a member of various spiritual organizations, Vacation Bible School, choir member, finance committee and Deaconess. She was formally educated in the Sumter County School System.

She attended Westside Elementary School, Plains High School and Sumter County High School. Following the US. Supreme Court decision, ruling segregation unconstitutional and in accordance with Sumter County’s Free Choice Option, June was among the first black students to integrate Plains High School, 1966-1968.In 1969, she entered Sumter County High School and graduated in 1970. In the fall of 1970, June entered Georgia Southwestern College, Americus, GA and completed two years. She later enrolled in the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. After graduating, June worked with the Urban League for approximately 3 years.

Much of her life was devoted to family; she was a devoted mother, homemaker and wife. In later years, she worked as a certified tax preparer. June was employed with H&R Block for 24 years where she was currently employed.

June is survived by her husband, of 44 years, Mr. Rufus James May, Taylors, SC; a son, Rommell (Kindell) May of Dacula, GA; a daughter, La Keisha (Jonathan) McMillan of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Ms. Morgan Palmer, Ms. Jocelyn May, Master Elijah May, all of Dacula, GA: her mother, Mrs. Julia Mae Edge of Americus, GA; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret (George, Jr.) Clark of Americus, GA, Mrs. Eleanor (Jacob) Mills of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Theresa (Durante) Williams of Americus, GA; four brothers, Retired Sgt. Major Judson (Sandra) Edge Jr. of Enterprise, AL, Elder Douglas (Stacy) Edge, the Rev. George (Lindsey) Edge and Rev. Michael (Linda) Edge, all of Americus, GA; 2 brothers-in-law, Mr. Lenwood (Melissa) May of Milledgeville, GA and Mr. Eddie (Veronica) May of Oxford AL; seven sisters-in-law, Ms. Alice Glover of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Annie (Larry) Hodge of Smithville, GA, Mrs. Elizabeth (Ronnie) Marshall of Plains, GA, Mrs. Ilean Bady of Smithville, GA, Mrs. Doris (Dwight) Perry of Dacula, GA, Mrs. Pamela (Hiram) Grimes of Sylvester, GA and Mrs. Lula May of Norfolk, VA; five uncles and six aunts, Rev. George Moore of Rockledge , IL, Mr. David Moore of Detroit, MI, Mr. Claude (Mary) Edge of Orlando, FL, Mr. Eugene (Naomi) Edge of Plains, GA, Mr. Timothy (Carolyn) Edge of Ellaville, GA, Mr. Henry (Cornelia) Moore of Americus, GA; Ms. Evelyn Jackson, Ms. Marjorie Thomas, Ms. Bertha Battle, Mrs. Mary Walton, all of Plains, GA, Mrs. Mattie Moore and Mrs. Annie Mack, both Americus, GA; seventy devoted and loving nephews and nieces whom she loved and adored; and many great-nieces and -nephews and a host of loving cousins, other relatives and close friends.
