Today we are celebrating the life of Kenneth Shumate, who transitioned on Saturday, July 20, 2019. “Gooter”, as he was so fondly called, was born January 8, 1955, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Orrell Wardlaw and Barbara Spearman Shumate. He was the second of five children.
He was a graduate from J. L. Mann High School in Greenville, after high school he started his career in Manufacturing. He enjoyed his life with his family and friends. He loved music and traveling. He met his loving wife in Greenville.
Throughout their of 26 years they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their daughters and grandchildren. After eighteen years in Atlanta, Georgia, they returned to Greenville, to enjoy retirement and live a simple life.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his wife, Marjorie Barnwell Shumate of the home; four daughters, Tanya Summers and Ursula (Barry) White, both of Atlanta, GA, and Kenya Roundtree and Jordan Watts, both of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Calvin “Pete” Shumate and Tyrone Warner, Sr., both of Greenville; three sisters, April “Nissie” Stewart, Ramona “Mona” Kirk and Lydia “Lee-Lee” Airline, all of Greenville; an aunt, Irma Gault of Greenville; ten grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
