Lelia Jane Choice Tolbert was born on May 8, 1928, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Walker and Annie Belle Choice, a loyal soldier on the battlefield for Christ, whoselife ended on Thursday, November 17, 2016.
She attended and graduated from Greenville County schools after which she acquired an Associates Nursing degree.
She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Mount Carmel Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, including Laity to the South Carolina United Methodist Church Conference, United Methodist Women President, Mother of the Church, Historian, Secretary, Treasurer, Usher, and Sunday School Teacher.
She worked in various capacities involving care for the elderly, sick and young. She was also a dedicated volunteer and participated in many community organizations. These included over sixty year of membership with the Order of the Eastern Star Moore’s Chapter 180 and Mountain Grove Chapter 215; lifelong member of the NAACP Greenville, SC Chapter; lifelong member of the Greenville County Democratic Women; President of Greenville Middle School PTA; many other volunteer capacities within the Greenville County School District; member of Social Lite Club of Greer and Taylors; and leader of Spartanburg Street Brownie Troop. After retirement in nursing, she worked in the merchandising field in local retail stores continuing to give of her love and spreading her joy to others.
Left to cherish her memories are, daughters, Glinda (Robert, deceased) Fuller of Travelers Rest, SC, Gloria (Jimmy) Downs of Greer, SC, and Markylena (Ronald, deceased) Tolbert-Wydman of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Martina Laura Miller, Mercedes M. Greene, Mark B. (Jami) Downs, Alex J. (Elaine) Downs, Jeremy W. Downs, Raymond L. Troy (Samantha) Fuller, Marty B. Miller; great-grandchildren, Annabelle’ Workman, Makaja Downs, Collin Downs, Ian Downs, Carter Owens, Owen Downs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
