Lillie Hamilton

December 19, 1934 — August 3, 2018

Mrs. Lillie Mae Hamilton, born in Anderson, South Carolina, on December 19, 1934, to the late Alice Connie McDaniel Brooks and Willie Jack Brooks, departed this life on August 3, 2018, at the Saint Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC. She grew up in Anderson and Greenville counties and attended elementary and high school in Greenville County. She was employed with the Greenville Memorial Hospital System and retired after 33 years of service."

Lillie Mae was a faithful, lifetime member of Saint Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church family until the Lord called her home. Lille Mae served in various capacities in the church, in the spring of 2018, Lillie Mae was appointed “Steward Emeritus”. Lille Mae loved to work, take care of her children, travel and drive, and cook for her family. Lillie Mae loved to talk so much that she was given the nickname “Polly”. Through her open-heart and willingness to give back Lillie Mae became “Ma Polly”, to all who knew and loved her. Ma Polly as Lillie Mae was known in the West Greenville community, opened her doors to all and everyone was welcomed to eat at her table. Her positive attitude, laughter and willing spirit was loved by all her family, friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by Alice and Willie Brooks (parents); aunts, Sarah McDonald-Thompson, and Ruth McCleod; great-aunt, Sally Jones, all of Greenville, SC; husbands, Leeroy Richardson and John Clyde Hamilton; daughter, Juanita Y. Richardson-Edwards; and two granddaughters, Melissa B. Richardson and Shemika N. Maddox.

Lillie Mae leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories; a devoted daughter, Evelyn Richardson-Dixon of Greenville, SC, three sons, Michael (Linda) Richardson of Greenville, SC, Jonathan (Brenda) Richardson of Colonial Heights, VA, and Tony (Angela) Richardson of Greenville, SC; five stepchildren, John (Peggy) Harmon and Willie (Shawn) Harmon, Barbara Harmon, Michael Kirksey, all of Greenville, SC and JoAnn Harmon, both Atlanta, GA.

Lillie Mae leaves 18 grandchildren, one of whom, Patrick Richardson, currently resides in the home; 28 great-grand-children; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of Greenville, SC; three special cousins, Johnny M. Thompson, William “Bill” Thompson, and Michael McDonald, all of Greenville, SC; and a host of extended family and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
