Lillie Hodge

July 7, 1938 — May 5, 2018

Mrs. Lillie Mae Hodge, age 79, of Greer, South Carolina, formerly of Newburgh, New York, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 5th, 2018.

Born on July 7, 1938, in Abbeville, South Carolina, Lillie Mae Aiken was the seventh of ten children born to Jeanette and Robert Aiken, Sr. She attended Abbeville County Schools before relocating to Newburgh, New York in 1955.

Lillie was joined in holy matrimony to Daniel Melrose Hodge on March 8, 1969, and the two shared 47 years in marriage.

Lillie, a people person, thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family, friends and colleagues. And, as a highly involved citizen in community affairs, she graciously hosted several political fundraisers in her home. She was charming and witty, enjoyed a lively debate, and had a smile that could light up a room.

Lillie was an avid gardener that took great pride in growing her own vegetables, but held a special affinity for her flower beds. She attended to them lovingly and was eager to teach others the art of plant care.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Hodge; her parents, Robert and Jeanette Aiken; sisters, Cathleen Boozer, Mary Aiken and Rosalie McDuffy; brothers, John Lee Aiken, Raymond Aiken, Thomas Lee Aiken and Robert Aiken Jr.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are her brothers James Aiken and Walter Aiken; a sister, Julia Lawson; several cousins and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Lillie always said, "Give me my flowers while I can smell them." Thus, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to:
