Lizzie JoAnn Montgomery Thompson

Mrs. Lizzie Joann Montgomery Thompson, 80 years old, died peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, December 31, 2015. She was born on January 16, 1935, to the late Herbert and Emma Graham Montgomery in Florence, SC. She attended public schools in Florence County. She married the late Chester Waymon Thompson.

Family always came first in her eyes. She was a guardian, a protector, a loving sister and friend. Any woman can be a mother but she was a special and caring mother. She will be missed, always admired and loved.

Throughout her life, she loved the Lord and was used to doing extraordinary work for God. She had a passion for life and helping people. It was God’s light that shined throughout Joann’s life as she glorified God throughout her journey. She leaves behind a loving church family, Mattoon Presbyterian Church where she dedicated her Godly work.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Ellen Thompson; a sister, Eunice Montgomery Barr; brothers, Carol Montgomery, Bobby Jean Montgomery, Joe Louis Montgomery and Dick Wallace.

She is survived by her three daughters, Ella T. Robinson, Gayle A. Harris and Ginny T. Gage all of Greenville, SC; four sons, Chester (Magalene) Thompson of Lake City, SC, Charles Thompson, Jimmy Johnson and James E. Thompson, all of Greenville, SC; one sister, Alar Mae Kennedy of Lake City, SC; two brothers, Louis (Inez) Montgomery of Scranton, SC and Saul (Annie) Montgomery of Hackensack, NJ; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law, Annie Lee Thompson of Greenville, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
