Lois Woods, as God who holds the power of life and death in his hands, willed it to be, departed this life and transitioned to Heaven on Friday morning, December 18, 2015.
Lois was born to the late Rev. Abraham and Maggie Wallace Woods on March 2, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a product of the public schools of Birmingham; continued studies included Miles College in Birmingham, Provident Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, Copley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Aurora, IL and Greenville Technical College.
Lois accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church in Birmingham under the pastorate of her father, Rev. Abraham Woods, Sr. She served faithfully at the Evangelistic Temple Greenville for over 45 years under the pastorate of Bishop Johnnie M. Smith, Sr.
Lois pursued a career as a registered nurse, working at Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago and Greenville Memorial Hospital where she retired from the GI Lab at Greenville Memorial.
Lois was known for her heart and spirit of sacrificial giving, both in the church and community. She blessed many lives quietly, without fanfare. She will be greatly missed. She was multi-talented i.e. writing, photography and was a “Jack of all trades.” She will be greatly missed.
Lois was preceded in death by seven siblings, Henry, Henrietta, Rev. Abraham Woods, Jr., Melzar Luke, Rev. Mary Hutcherson, Dr. Roy Woods, Dwight Woods and a special son, Aaron Oliphant.
She leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters, Shirley Patterson and Pastor Lottie Woods Hall both, of Greer, SC and Evangelist Cathy (George) Gray of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Bishop Calvin (Glenda) Woods of Birmingham, AL and Franklin Woods of Atlanta, GA; a special daughter, Sonja (Marvin) Miller and grandchildren, Marvin and Jessica all of Rowlett, TX. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives , several spiritual sons and daughters and friends..
